Maasai Mara

The reserve most people mean when they ask for 'a Kenya safari' — wide open plains, resident lion and cheetah, and for a few months each year, the wildebeest migration thundering through.

Amboseli National Park

Elephant herds roam right out in the open here, with Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak rising behind them on a clear morning. It's one of the most photographed views in the country.

Tsavo East & West

Kenya's biggest park by a long way, split into East and West, known for elephants that turn rust-red from the iron-rich dust and for wilderness you can drive through for hours without meeting another vehicle.

Lake Nakuru

A compact soda lake ringed by cliffs. Depending on water levels you might find thousands of flamingos here, and there's a well-protected sanctuary for both black and white rhino.

Diani Beach

Most of our guests end their trip here: white sand, warm turquoise water and a reef close enough to snorkel from the beach.

Mount Kenya

Africa's second-highest mountain, and the good news is you don't need technical climbing experience to reach Point Lenana. Just fitness, a few days, and a route that crosses five distinct climate zones on the way up.

Maasai Culture & Villages

Maasai communities living near the Mara welcome visitors in for a few hours to share songs, beadwork and a guided look at daily village life.

Samburu National Reserve

Kenya's dry north, and a different cast of wildlife because of it — species you won't see on the southern circuit, plus the Samburu people who still live across this land.

Wasini Island

A small, car-free coral island off the south coast near Shimoni — the jumping-off point for the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, dolphins, and a proper Swahili fishing village.

Lake Naivasha

About 90 minutes from Nairobi and a nice change of pace: a boat ride among hippos, an unguided walk with zebra and giraffe on Crescent Island, and Hell's Gate's gorge next door.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

A private conservancy on the Laikipia Plateau, and East Africa's most important rhino sanctuary — home to Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos left on the planet.

Nairobi National Park

Lions, rhino and giraffe roam a few kilometres from downtown Nairobi, with the city skyline visible behind them — a combination that exists nowhere else. A good half-day if you're short on time.

Aberdare National Park

A highland park of rainforest, bamboo and open moorland climbing from 2,000 to nearly 4,000 metres, best known for tree-lodges that let you watch elephant and rhino come to a floodlit waterhole after dark, and for some of Kenya's most dramatic waterfalls.

Meru National Park

Rugged, well-watered and far less visited than Kenya's famous reserves, Meru is where 'Born Free' lioness Elsa was raised and released — dense riverine forest, 13 rivers, and healthy populations of elephant, rhino and big cats without the crowds.
