8-Day Nairobi, Ol Pejeta, Nakuru & Masai Mara

We head north first, through tea and coffee country to Ol Pejeta, a private conservancy with the highest predator density in Kenya and, if you want to add it, a chimpanzee sanctuary. From there it's Thomson Falls, Lake Nakuru's rhino and flamingos, a boat trip around Lake Naivasha's Crescent Island, and finally three nights in the Mara with an optional sunrise balloon flight.

Day 1: Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Day 2: Full day Ol Pejeta game drives, optional chimpanzee sanctuary
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Nakuru via Thomson Falls, afternoon game drive
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Naivasha, Crescent Island boat excursion
Day 5: Transfer to Masai Mara, afternoon game drive
Day 6: Full day Mara game drives
Day 7: Optional sunrise balloon safari, or morning and afternoon game drives
Day 8: Final game drive, return to Nairobi

Maasai Mara

The reserve most people mean when they ask for 'a Kenya safari' — wide open plains, resident lion and cheetah, and for a few months each year, the wildebeest migration thundering through.

Lake Nakuru

A compact soda lake ringed by cliffs. Depending on water levels you might find thousands of flamingos here, and there's a well-protected sanctuary for both black and white rhino.
