6-Day Masai Mara, Nakuru & Amboseli

This is the fuller version of our classic route. Two full days of game drives in the Mara give the migration (in season) and resident predators a real chance to show up, then it's on to Nakuru for rhino and flamingos, and finally Amboseli for elephant herds against Kilimanjaro. Lodges throughout, six nights, no rushing.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara via Rift Valley viewpoint, evening game drive
Day 2–3: Full days of Mara game drives
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Nakuru, afternoon game drive
Day 5: Transfer to Amboseli, afternoon game drive, Kilimanjaro views
Day 6: Morning game drive, return to Nairobi

Destinations

Maasai Mara

The reserve most people mean when they ask for 'a Kenya safari' — wide open plains, resident lion and cheetah, and for a few months each year, the wildebeest migration thundering through.

Amboseli National Park

Elephant herds roam right out in the open here, with Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak rising behind them on a clear morning. It's one of the most photographed views in the country.

Lake Nakuru

A compact soda lake ringed by cliffs. Depending on water levels you might find thousands of flamingos here, and there's a well-protected sanctuary for both black and white rhino.
